What?
Your Turn is a playable urban sports installation that transforms a giant soccer ball into a three-dimensional sports field, designed to function both as public-space infrastructure and playground equipment.
Originally commissioned as part of The Art of the Game, a public art trail accompanying the 2026 FIFA World Cup in New York, the sculpture was first installed at Fordham Plaza in the Bronx. It now enters a new chapter as a permanent piece of sports and play infrastructure at P12X, The Lewis and Clark School in New York City, where it will become part of the school’s arts, athletics and educational programming.
Why?
Cities need more opportunities for play, movement and social interaction in everyday public space. Yet sports infrastructure is often fixed to specific activities, abilities and rules.
Your Turn proposes a more open model: a piece of sports infrastructure without a single prescribed way to play. It can be used casually, collectively or competitively, allowing different bodies, ages and abilities to participate on their own terms.
How?
The sculpture combines two overlapping game systems: one based on points, the other on actions and movement. Players throw or kick a ball at its surface, and where it lands determines what happens next — from gaining points to changing sides, moving position or involving another player.
The result is a flexible game that changes with every turn, turning the sculpture into a sports field, playground and social device in one.
